Sound Mirrors
Leah Barclay

To be officially opened Friday 8 October 6 pm
by Sandra Conte and Leah Barclay

Refreshments available, all welcome

Leah Barclay's interactive installation Sound Mirrors was selected as one of four national projects for the Australia Council’s HELM-Arts Award. HELM recognises work that is at the intersection of art, science, technology and the environment. Sound Mirrors is a multi-channel immersive environment that captures the sound of international rivers and their surrounding communities. Throughout 2009 and 2010 Leah Barclay travelled through Australia, India, Korea and China collaborating with traditional musicians and responding to significant rivers.

In the current environmental crisis, Sound Mirrors explores the notion of rivers as the lifeblood of communities across the world. This installation is part of a broader project designed to give rivers a voice and a global audience to listen.

The Opening will include: welcome to the country by Lyndon Davis, a live performance by Leah Barclay plus launch of the limited edition CD Transient Landscapes featuring works from the Sound Mirrors installation.
